This thread is for discussion, observations, opinions and news regarding the direct-to-video Muppet Sing Alongs series.
Following the sing-along video trend kicked off by Disney, the Jim Henson Company took their Muppets to the popular formula with a series of Muppet Sing Alongs videos. Four volumes (five by technicality) were produced, combining original and archive content and making their songs more accessible and fun with animated lyrics on screen:
- Billy Bunny's Animal Songs, the first all-original production after the passing of Muppets creator Jim Henson, tells the story of a hyperactive bunny sent into the woods by his mother to make new friends and learn new songs.
- It's Not Easy Being Green collects celebrated songs from the Muppets' history and throws in a little synergy with clips promoting the Muppet Beach Party album and the previously released Billy Bunny video.
- Muppet Treasure Island keeps the synergy train going by featuring songs from the movie of the same name and several new pirate themed songs.
- Muppets On Wheels, although released as part of Jim Henson's Preschool Collection, follows the same formula and sees Kermit the Frog and a Muppet boy named Lindy in song through the fascinating world of vehicles. It was followed up in the Muppet Sing Along series proper with Things That Fly.
Most of these productions have been long out of print since their initial VHS releases, but clips have resurfaced from them on the Jim Henson Company YouTube channel and on the Muppet Treasure Island/The Great Muppet Caper Blu-ray. More importantly, however, one of these productions has just recently seen a new and legally available release: Billy Bunny's Animal Songs, courtesy of Kidoodle.TV. Although this program is under the ownership of the Jim Henson Company, this release is uncut and features scenes with Kermit the Frog, as in the original release.
If you have seen or plan to see any of these programs, please feel free to use this thread to discuss them!
